We are fortunate at St Joseph's, to have well-resourced, rapidly growing and highly successful Creative Arts Program.
Instrumental Music is offered to all students from Grade 3 onwards, including:
Students wishing to participate in instrumental music participate in 30 minute small group tutorials during class time. They learn technique, tone, rhythm, aural skills, breathing and musicality. Being part of the Instrumental Music Program also enables students to perform in our junior and excellence school bands as well as a number of other ensembles. Instrumental Music tuition fees are invoiced separately to school fees. Instrument hire/purchase is a parent responsibility.
The benefits of learning an instrument are vast, including increased mathematical capacity, stronger brain function and sharpens your concentration. Please have a look at the website explaining the 18 benefits of learning a musical instrument.
Choirs are run at St Joseph's throughout the year, giving our students many opportunities to perform at a number of different events such as the Mount Isa Eisteddfod, Queensland Music Festivals Projects, Multicultural Festival, Carols by Candlelight etc. For the first half of the year, Grade 2/3 and 4/5/6 choirs are auditioned and students who match pitch are selected to sing in the Eisteddfod choir. All other students are required to participate in the verse speaking choir at the Eisteddfod. In Semester Two, choir is not compulsory and is open to all students from Years 1 to 6.
All students from Prep to Year 6 receive specialist Music and Drama tuition aligned with the Australian Curriculum: Arts Learning Area. Classroom teachers facilitate an integrated approach to Media and Visual Art studies as part of the general classroom curriculum program. Students participate in specialist Dance classes (block lessons at the end of Term 2).
