Our Facilities
Our Facilities
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Mount Isa, offers a modern and welcoming learning environment designed to support the academic, spiritual, and personal growth of every student.
Our facilities include:
- Contemporary General Learning Areas (GLAs) – Fourteen dedicated, modern classrooms arranged in three collaborative hubs: Prep–Year 2, Years 3–4, and Years 5–6. Each hub provides flexible spaces that encourage teamwork, creativity, and hands-on learning.
- Administration Block – Opened in 2023, this purpose-built facility includes a Board Room, Student and Parent Reception areas, Finance Office, and First Aid Room, providing a central and accessible hub for families and visitors.
- Library and Learning Resource Centre – Less than ten years old, the library promotes a love of reading and inquiry. It is open every lunch break for student access and features an adjoining resource room to support classroom learning.
- The Penola Centre (Multi-Purpose Hall) – A large, versatile space used for school assemblies, liturgies, and a wide range of learning experiences, including Health and Physical Education and The Arts.
- Outdoor Play and Sport Areas – Two designated play spaces support active and balanced play. The main oval caters for Years 1–6 and includes a nature play zone and large playground, while a smaller, purpose-built playground provides a safe and engaging space for Prep students as they transition into primary school.
- Music Room – A dedicated space supporting both classroom and instrumental music programs, fostering creativity and student expression.
Modernisation and Sustainability
Since 2011, St Joseph’s has undergone a major redevelopment, transforming the campus into a modern, future-focused learning environment designed to future-proof Catholic education in the west. Smart systems have been installed throughout the school, including energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning, ensuring sustainable operations. The school runs at a very low energy consumption level, powered by solar panels and battery backup systems that store energy to operate critical systems well into the evening, reducing our environmental impact while modelling responsible stewardship of resources.
Technology and Digital Learning
Our commitment to digital learning is reflected in our investment in up-to-date information technology:
- Mobile computer labs provide a 1:2 student-to-device ratio in Prep – Year 1.
- From Year 2 to Year 6, students participate in a 1:1 Chromebook program, ensuring regular access to technology that enhances learning across all curriculum areas.
- All classrooms feature interactive screens, wireless connectivity, and FrontRow systems (or similar) to support clear communication, collaboration, and innovative teaching practices.
Together, these facilities create a dynamic, future-focused learning environment where every student is encouraged to learn, lead, and thrive.
